Decades after costarring in The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Tyler Moore talked about a small moment with Lucille Ball that made a big impact on Moore. Lucille Ball was not only comedy royalty at the time, she owned the production company Desilu where the Dick Van Dyke Show was filmed. 

Lucille Ball often watched them rehearsing the show, and Moore has spoken about the day when Ball walked off the set, but then turned around and came right up to Mary (how can we not think of her as just "Mary"?) and said three simple words that she carried with her for the rest of her life: "You're very good." 

Just three words, yet Mary Tyler Moore said, "That was was the greatest gift I ever received in this business, I don't think I have another moment that compares with the impact of those words."  

One of the reasons I wrote, "Small Moments, Big Outcomes" was to remind people (myself included!) that it truly is the small moments at work, in business, and in life, that matter. It's the small moments that can make a profound difference, sometimes beyond what you may even realize! It's the small moments that help build an inspiring workplace culture. It's in the small moments that you forge a lasting legacy.
